Road Safety Campaign in Ibadan: A Step Toward Safer Streets
In a bid to enhance road safety and minimize traffic accidents, the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) joined forces with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), and other key stakeholders for a comprehensive road sensitization campaign across Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The event took place on Thursday and aimed to raise awareness among road users about the importance of following traffic rules and regulations.
The campaign kicked off at the Oyo State Secretariat and involved a walk through several major routes, including Bodija Market, Agbowo, Ajibode, Ojo, Mokola, Dugbe, Sango, Ojoo, and Apata. During this initiative, participants engaged with motorists, commercial drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians, emphasizing the need for safer behavior on the roads.
Key Messages from the Campaign
Speaking during the campaign, Major Adekoya Adesagba, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, especially during and after the ember months. He highlighted that this period should not be viewed as one of doom but rather as an opportunity for increased vigilance, discipline, and responsibility.
Major Adesagba explained that the sensitization walk was part of OYRTMA’s broader strategy to reduce road crashes by promoting public education and active community engagement. He emphasized that the agency would continue to combine awareness campaigns with strict enforcement to ensure full compliance with traffic regulations across the state.
