Market Performance on Thursday
On Thursday, the stock markets in Dhaka and Chattogram opened on a bearish note, with most company shares experiencing a decline in value during the first hour of trading.
At the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the key index DSEX dropped by 49 points. The Shariah-based DSES also saw a decrease, falling by 11 points. Additionally, the blue-chip DS30 index slipped by 10 points. This downward trend was reflected across the market, as out of the traded issues, the prices of 316 companies declined, while only 36 companies saw gains. The remaining 35 companies had their prices remain unchanged.
The overall trading activity showed a significant volume, with shares and units worth over Tk 180 crore changing hands during the first half of the session. This indicates a level of investor activity, although the direction of the movement was negative.
Continued Downtrend at Chittagong Stock Exchange
The downtrend observed at the DSE was also evident at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). The overall index at the CSE shed 50 points, reflecting a similar pattern of declining values.
In terms of individual company performance, prices of 65 companies fell, while 29 companies experienced an increase in their share prices. Another 28 companies saw no change in their stock prices. The trading volume at the CSE remained robust, with the turnover exceeding Tk 5.4 crore in the first half of the trading session.
