Oyo Fire Service Recovers 45-Year-Old Man’s Body from Deep Well

Rescue Operation in Iseyin: Man Recovered from Deep Well

In a recent incident, the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, specifically the Iseyin Command, successfully recovered the body of a 45-year-old man who had fallen into a deep well in the Odo-Ogbo, Oja-Agbe area of Iseyin Local Government Area. This event highlights the ongoing efforts of emergency services to respond to critical situations and save lives.

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, shared details about the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital. According to him, the incident took place on Wednesday night and was reported to the fire service at approximately 9:04 am on Thursday by a resident named Mrs. Azeez Iyabo.

Akinwande explained, “The emergency was reported at exactly 09:04 hours on Thursday, November 6, 2025, through a running caller, Mrs. Azeez Iyabo, who reported that someone was trapped in a deep well at the above address.” He added that the agency’s officers, led by CFS Banuso, responded promptly and were deployed to the scene of the incident.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that a man of about 45 years of age had fallen into a deep well on Wednesday night. The fire service officers quickly swung into action, using all necessary rescue equipment to recover the man’s body from the well. The corpse was then handed over to a team of policemen from the Okutapemo Divisional Headquarters, Iseyin.

Importance of Public Awareness and Safety Measures

Akinwande urged residents to be cautious in their daily activities and avoid taking unnecessary risks that could endanger their lives. He also advised members of the public to avoid working or moving in isolation, emphasizing that prompt reporting of emergencies could help save lives.

This incident is part of a series of similar rescue operations handled by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency in recent months. These operations have included the recovery of individuals trapped in wells, abandoned boreholes, and other hazardous locations. Such incidents often occur due to unsecured wells or accidents during late-night activities, prompting the agency to repeatedly urge residents to exercise caution and report emergencies promptly.

Recent Incidents Highlighting the Dangers of Unsecured Wells

In June, a similar incident was reported where a 68-year-old man in the Molefalafia area of Ibadan fell into a deep well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone. This underscores how everyday careless acts around unsecured wells can rapidly become life-threatening.

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency continues to play a vital role in ensuring the safety of residents by responding swiftly to emergencies and raising awareness about potential hazards. Their efforts are crucial in preventing further tragedies and promoting a culture of vigilance and responsibility among the community.
