New Coach Takes Charge with Determination
New Police FC head coach Dusan Stojanovic has taken the reins of the team with a clear objective: to defend the Football Kenya Federation League title this season. His first match in charge was a narrow 1-0 victory over Sofapaka on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Police Sacco grounds. The win marked the beginning of his tenure, but Stojanovic is already looking ahead to future challenges.
Despite the win, Stojanovic acknowledged that the match was far from easy. He believes the game could have gone either way, highlighting the competitive nature of the league. “This is just the first win, but we are looking for the next one and even more. It is behind us, and we have to move on and look for another one in the next match,” he said.
Stojanovic started the game with an aggressive approach, which led to Edward Omondi scoring the only goal of the match in the 40th minute. However, he adjusted his strategy in the second half, opting for a more defensive low-block formation. “It is about reading the game, and we had to adjust with the moments to ensure we retain our victory,” he added.
The Serbian coach, who holds a UEFA A license, was officially unveiled on Sunday, November 2, at the Police Sacco Stadium. He watched the team’s goalless draw with Posta Rangers from the stands before taking over. This came after the previous coach, Burundian Etienne Ndayiragije, was sacked on October 29, 2025, following a 4-1 loss to Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League second round preliminary.
Stojanovic is confident about the team’s prospects for the upcoming season. “As we chase the league title, we will see what the future brings. The league has so many competitive teams, and we expect a tough 2025/2026 season,” he stated.
Challenges and Controversies
While Stojanovic is focused on leading his team to success, other coaches have faced their own set of challenges. Ezekiel Akwana, the manager of a rival team, criticized the officiating during a recent match. He accused the center referee of being biased, claiming that several questionable decisions went against his team. “The referee made numerous suspicious calls that didn’t auger well with us. I feel he was biased and made it difficult for us with 50/50 calls going against us,” Akwana said.
Stojanovic, who previously guided Uganda’s SC Villa to the league title in the 2023/24 season, now faces the challenge of leading Police FC to another triumph. His next match is against Gor Mahia, a team with a record of 21-time champions. The game is scheduled for Sunday, and fans are eagerly anticipating the clash.
Key Matches and Strategies
Stojanovic’s approach to the game has been strategic, balancing aggression with caution. In the first half, his team pressed hard, leading to the crucial goal. In the second half, he shifted to a more defensive stance, ensuring the lead was maintained. This tactical decision reflects his experience and understanding of the game.
The coach’s background as a successful manager in Uganda adds credibility to his leadership. His ability to adapt and make informed decisions under pressure is a key asset for Police FC. As the season progresses, his strategies will be put to the test against some of the strongest teams in the league.
Looking Ahead
With the new season underway, the focus is on building momentum and maintaining consistency. Stojanovic’s leadership and tactical acumen will be vital in navigating the challenges ahead. The league promises to be highly competitive, with multiple teams vying for the top spot.
As the team prepares for its next fixture, the support from fans and the determination of the players will play a significant role in achieving their goals. The journey to defend the league title is just beginning, and the road ahead is filled with both opportunities and obstacles.
