Installation of New Omankrado in Ajumako Amia
Mr. Anthony Inkoom, a 57-year-old self-employed man from the Twidam Clan, has been officially installed as the new Omankrado of Ajumako Amia under the stool name Nana Acquah Ogomon V. His appointment marks a significant moment for the community, as he is expected to play a pivotal role in driving the socio-economic development of the area.
Nana Acquah Ogomon V succeeded his late uncle, Omankrado Kwesi Boahen Ogomon IV, who passed away 21 years ago. The installation ceremony was a grand event that followed traditional customs and rituals, reflecting the deep cultural heritage of the region.
Traditional Rites and Ceremonies
The day began with Mr. Inkoom being carried in a palanquin through the main streets of Amia Township. The procession was accompanied by drumming, dancing, and singing, with libations poured and various rituals performed at the Musuban Shrine. This ritual symbolizes the connection between the new leader and the spiritual and ancestral roots of the community.
After the shrine visit, Mr. Inkoom was taken to the durbar ground of the town, where he took the oath of allegiance before Nana Kwesi Apo I, the Odikro of Amia, along with his Queen Mother, elders, opinion leaders, and the Oman (State). This oath signifies his commitment to the community and its traditions.
Before the official installation, Mr. Inkoom underwent all the customary and traditional rites. The family head, Nana Obiri Yeboah, and other members of the town, led by the Odikro, proceeded to the Ajumako Traditional Council. There, Ebusuapayin Yeboah introduced Nana Ogomon V to the members of the traditional council and presented him to Okokodurefo Ogyeabo Kwamena Hammah Ababio II, the Paramount Chief of Ajumako and President of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Traditional Council.
Oath of Allegiance and Symbolic Drink
At the traditional council, Nana Ogomon V took the oath of allegiance, office, and secrecy before Okokodurefo Hammah Ababio and the entire membership of the council. As per tradition, Okokodurefo Hammah Ababio offered the new Omankrado a drink to symbolize his acceptance into the traditional council. This act represents the community’s endorsement of his leadership and the responsibilities that come with it.
During his address to the gathering, Okokodurefo Hammah Ababio encouraged the new Omankrado to respect his Odikro and elders, as well as all individuals living in the community, emphasizing that they should receive the same respect in return. He urged Mr. Inkoom to serve the people rather than rule over them and to collaborate with everyone for peace and cohesion.
Commitment to Community Development
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the ceremony, the Ajumako Amia Omankrado expressed gratitude to his family members and all those who contributed to his outdooring and installation. He emphasized that his top priority is to support the Paramount Chief, his Odikro, and the traditional council in implementing meaningful policies and programs that will improve the lives of the people of Amia.
Mr. Inkoom also stated that his doors are open to receiving fruitful suggestions and ideas that will help him fulfill his duties as the Omankrado of Ajumako Amia. His leadership is seen as a vital step towards fostering unity, progress, and development within the community.
