Key Matchups in the Rwanda Premier League
The Rwanda Premier League is set to deliver exciting matchups this weekend, with several teams vying for position in the league table. On Friday, Police FC will face AS Kigali at the Kigali Pele Stadium at 3:00 PM. This game is crucial for both teams, as a win for Police could take them to 19 points, placing them six points ahead of second-placed Rayon Sports. Rayon Sports will then face APR on Saturday at Amahoro Stadium, adding to the tension in the league.
Police FC’s Strong Start
Police FC has been in impressive form this season, remaining unbeaten after six matches with five wins and one draw. Their record of 16 points places them at the top of the table, making them strong contenders for the title. The team’s performance has been consistent, and their coach, Ben Moussa, remains focused on achieving a historic milestone—winning the first-ever league title for Police FC since the club was established in 2005.
“Winning a first-ever league title for Police FC remains my ultimate goal,” said Moussa. “I could become the first coach to deliver this achievement since the club’s establishment.”
Moussa emphasized that his team is taking the upcoming match against AS Kigali seriously, despite their position at the top of the table. “It’s possible for us to win, but we have to be prepared,” he said. “We respect every opponent, and we are taking the AS Kigali game very seriously.”
AS Kigali’s Struggles and Ambitions
AS Kigali, on the other hand, has had a challenging start to the season, accumulating only four points from six games. However, they remain determined to turn their fortunes around. The team suffered a 3-0 defeat to SC Kiyovu last weekend, but their captain, Haruna Niyonzima, believes the game can still be won.
“Just because Police are top of the table doesn’t make them automatic favourites,” said Niyonzima, who previously played for APR. “The game will be open. Our goal is to minimize mistakes from the start. We can win if we play our game well.”
Other Matches to Watch
In addition to the Police vs AS Kigali matchup, there are several other key games scheduled for the weekend:
- APR vs Rayon Sports: This game promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to climb the league table.
- Etincelles vs Rutsiro
- AS Muhanga vs Marines
- Musanze vs Gicumbi
- Mukura vs Gasogi United
- Gorilla vs Amagaju
These matches will add to the intensity of the league, with each team aiming to secure valuable points.
