The Sindh Health Department has released the latest update on dengue cases in the province, revealing that a total of 5,150 dengue tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. A significant point mentioned by the Sindh Health Secretary, Rehan Baloch, is the decline in dengue positivity in Hyderabad. The positivity rate in this region has dropped from 46 percent last week to 35 percent, indicating some success in containment efforts.

Government Response and Monitoring

The government has been actively monitoring the situation around the clock and has implemented an effective strategy to curb the spread of dengue. This includes various public health initiatives aimed at reducing mosquito breeding grounds and increasing awareness among the population.

During the last 24 hours, 105 new dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals across the province, while private hospitals reported 87 new admissions. In terms of recovery, 121 patients were discharged from public hospitals, and 97 from private facilities. Notably, no dengue-related deaths were reported during this period.

Rising Numbers of Dengue Cases

According to the latest figures, the number of dengue cases recorded in Sindh this month has reached 6,199. So far this year, the total number of dengue cases has risen to 11,763. These numbers highlight the ongoing challenge posed by the disease in the region.

Currently, 226 dengue patients are admitted in government hospitals, while 203 are in private hospitals across Sindh. To manage the influx of patients, a total of 983 beds have been allocated for dengue patients in public sector hospitals. Specifically, 256 beds are available in Karachi, 165 in Hyderabad, and 562 across the rest of the province. In the private sector, 475 beds have been reserved, including 200 in Karachi, 209 in Hyderabad, and 66 in the remaining districts.

Laboratory Testing and Data Collection

Monitoring efforts continue as the health department receives data from 56 laboratories across the province. In Karachi, 38 laboratories are conducting dengue testing, which includes 12 public and 26 private facilities. In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are functional for dengue diagnostics, comprising 7 government-run and 11 privately operated labs.

Ongoing Challenges and Public Awareness

Despite the progress made in reducing the positivity rate in certain areas, the overall situation remains a concern. The government continues to emphasize the importance of public awareness and preventive measures. Residents are urged to take steps such as eliminating stagnant water, using mosquito repellents, and seeking medical attention promptly if symptoms arise.

As the health department works tirelessly to manage the outbreak, the focus remains on ensuring timely diagnosis, adequate treatment, and long-term prevention strategies to protect the population from the threat of dengue. The collaboration between public and private healthcare sectors plays a crucial role in this effort.
