Olympic Star Ariarne Titmus Embarks on New Chapter in Melbourne
Ariarne Titmus, the 25-year-old Australian swimming legend, has taken a significant step in her life by moving to Melbourne. The decision marks a new beginning for the former Olympic champion, who recently announced her retirement from competitive swimming.
Titmus is now living with her partner, Mac Powell, an investment analyst. The couple’s decision to move together was made this week, as Titmus shared, “It’s just happened this week, new beginnings, a fresh start, a new chapter.” While leaving Queensland was difficult, she expressed gratitude for the support of her family and friends in Melbourne, many of whom have relocated from Tasmania.
The swimmer confirmed that she is content with her choice to retire from the pool. She is embracing a more “normal” lifestyle, which includes cooking dinner at home and enjoying a glass of wine with loved ones.

Titmus also mentioned that she won’t miss the early morning alarm clock that once defined her training routine. “It took me a while to make the decision… and I’ve definitely made the right one,” she told News Corp. “I’m enjoying life and I really love working in the TV space… and hope to do that more.”
She also highlighted the importance of having a supportive partner. “I feel very lucky to have someone who supports me and makes me smile every day.”
A Historic Achievement in Paris
At the Paris Olympics last year, Titmus achieved a historic third individual Olympic gold medal by winning the 400m freestyle. The event was dubbed “the race of the century” as she defeated two previous world record holders: American great Katie Ledecky and Canadian prodigy Summer McIntosh.
This victory made Titmus the first Australian athlete since Dawn Fraser in 1964 to win back-to-back gold medals in the same event. Her performance solidified her legacy as one of the greatest swimmers in Australian history.
Before the Paris Games, Titmus underwent surgery to remove an ovarian tumour. Despite this challenge, she continued to compete at the highest level, showcasing her resilience and determination.
Tributes from Swimming Legends
Titmus’ retirement announcement received heartfelt tributes from some of the biggest names in Australian swimming. Kyle Chalmers wrote, “I’m so proud of you. You are a legend in and out of the pool. You’ve inspired me so much over the years and I am honoured to call you my friend.”
Mollie O’Callaghan, Susie O’Neill, Bronte Campbell, and Kaylee McKeown also shared their best wishes for the former champion.
As she steps away from the pool, Titmus is looking forward to a new chapter filled with opportunities, personal growth, and time spent with those she loves. Her journey from Olympic glory to a more balanced life is a testament to her strength and dedication.
