The 45th Busan National Sports Festival for the Disabled will take place from October 31 to November 5 in Busan Metropolitan City. This prestigious event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized by the Korea Sports Association for the Disabled, and co-hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, and the Busan Sports Association for the Disabled.
This year’s festival brings together a total of 9,805 participants, including 6,106 athletes and 3,699 officials and executives, from 17 cities and provinces across the country. The event is held under the slogan 「Korea Becoming One in the Global Hub City」, emphasizing unity and inclusivity. A total of 31 sports competitions will be held, offering opportunities for both athletes and hobbyists to showcase their talents.
Kim Dae-hyun, the second vice minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will attend the opening ceremony at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium on October 31 and officially declare the start of the competition. The National Sports Festival for the Disabled has a long history, having first been held in 1981. It serves as the largest platform in South Korea for athletes with disabilities to demonstrate their skills and achievements. Since 2016, the festival has also focused on expanding its base by operating clubs to discover and nurture new talent.
Notably, several medalists who showcased their spirit and energy at the ‘2024 Paris Paralympics’ will participate in this event. The festival also acts as a prelude to the ‘2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games for the Disabled’ in Japan, providing an opportunity for future national teams to gain experience and prepare for the upcoming international competition.
The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on KBS NTV, and all games during the tournament are free to watch. Additionally, viewers can access all events through the Korean Sports Association for the Disabled (KPC-TV).
