Kimberley Yoga Studio Launches Men’s Health Class

A Unique Approach to Men’s Health Awareness

Kimberley Yoga Studio recently hosted a special event that brought together ten local men for an evening focused on health, learning, and well-being. This session was part of Men’s Health Awareness Month and aimed to address critical issues related to prostate and testicular health.

The class was led by yoga instructor Martin Maree, who emphasized the importance of breaking the silence surrounding men’s health. The session provided practical tools for early detection, self-care, and physical wellness. With prostate cancer affecting one in sixteen South African men and testicular cancer being one of the most treatable yet often underdiscussed conditions among younger men, the need for awareness is more pressing than ever.

Combining Mindfulness and Physical Wellness

The event combined mindful yoga, breathwork, and pelvic health education to create a safe and supportive environment for men of all ages. Participants were encouraged to engage openly and share their experiences, which helped foster a sense of community and mutual support.

Martin shared his vision for the class, stating, “I wanted this class to be more than just exercise. It is about empowering men with knowledge of how to check their bodies, how to understand early warning signs, and how to use simple techniques like breath and movement to improve circulation, reduce stress, and support overall prostate and testicular health.”

Participants were guided through restorative yoga postures such as Viparita Karani, Supta Baddha Konasana, and Supported Bridge Pose. These postures were specifically chosen to encourage pelvic circulation and ease tension around the prostate and lower abdomen.

Encouraging Open Conversations

Beyond the physical aspects of the class, the session sparked important discussions about healthy lifestyle habits, the value of regular medical screening, and the need for men to speak more freely about their well-being. Martin highlighted the importance of these conversations, saying, “Men are often taught to stay silent about their bodies. But awareness saves lives. Talking saves lives. Tonight we reminded each other that strength comes from knowledge and openness.”

The participants expressed gratitude for the informative and grounding experience, with several requesting more regular classes focusing on men’s health, functional movement, and stress management.

Commitment to Community Wellness

This event is part of Kimberley Yoga Studio’s ongoing commitment to promoting community wellness. Follow-up workshops are already being planned to continue the conversation and provide more opportunities for men to learn and grow.
