Seven Victims Rescued in Edo Kidnapping Raid

Edo State Police Successfully Rescue Seven Kidnapped Victims

The Edo State Police Command has made a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and violent crimes in the state. According to a recent statement, seven victims were rescued from an abduction incident that took place in Ewohimi, within the Esan South-East Local Government Area.

The rescue operation was carried out by police operatives, who worked closely with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups. The victims had been taken from their farm in the Ikeken Forest by armed men suspected to be kidnappers. The incident occurred on Saturday, 1st November 2025, when Enoch Omozokpia reported that his father, William Omozokpia (65 years), was abducted along with six others while tending to his farm.

The Divisional Police Officer in Ewohimi led the rescue mission, which involved a well-coordinated operation in the forest. The team engaged in an intense bush-combing effort, forcing the abductors to abandon their captives and flee. All seven victims were found unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.

The rescued individuals include:

  • William Akhabue
  • Innocent Ebarekor
  • Rachel Ebarekor
  • Efuah Ebarekor
  • Winner Ebarekor
  • William Omozokpia
  • Lucky Igiese (popularly known as Bulala)

The Commissioner of Police for the Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, praised the gallantry and professionalism of the police operatives, soldiers, and vigilantes involved in the rescue operation. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents in the state and assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

Public Appeal for Vigilance

Emem Ikoedem, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency contact lines: 08077773721, 08037646272, and 08100389992. These numbers connect directly to the complaints response unit, ensuring prompt action is taken.

Recent Incidents and Ongoing Efforts

In October 2025, a related incident saw seven passengers abducted from a 14-seater bus along the Benin–Akure Road between the Obarenren and Odunwongie communities. This highlights the persistent threat of kidnapping in the region.

The Edo State Police Command has also been actively arresting criminals and ensuring that those with cases to answer are charged to court after thorough investigations. This reflects the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the state.

In March, PUNCH Online reported that an angry mob killed seven travelers in Uromi, Edo Central, over their suspected involvement in kidnapping. Guns were reportedly found in the truck carrying them to the northern part of the country, leading to the lynching of about 16 people, with seven confirmed dead.

These incidents underscore the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling crime in the region. However, the recent successful rescue operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between police, military, and community groups.

Continued Commitment to Safety

The Edo State Police Command remains committed to protecting the lives and properties of its citizens. Through continuous operations and collaboration with various stakeholders, the command aims to create a safer environment for all residents.

As the investigation into the recent abduction continues, authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that such incidents are prevented in the future. The public is encouraged to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement to help achieve this goal.
