APC Lagos Chapter Advises Peter Obi to Reassess 2027 Presidential Ambitions
The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to reconsider his plans for a 2027 presidential bid. This call for reflection came from the party’s spokesperson, Mr. Seye Oladejo, who made the statement on Sunday in Lagos.
Oladejo was responding to the Labour Party’s performance in Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra. He pointed out that the election results indicated a decline in the Labour Party’s grassroots support and its Obedient Movement. According to him, the outcome, particularly in Obi’s polling unit, highlighted the weakening structure of the Labour Party in his base area.
He emphasized that social media popularity alone cannot replace consistent political organization and voter engagement. “The Anambra election offers important lessons on structure and performance,” Oladejo stated. He noted that while President Bola Tinubu focused on governance and reforms, other political actors should focus on building capacity.
Lessons from Anambra Election
Oladejo said the APC’s performance in Anambra demonstrated growing public confidence in the party’s leadership. He stressed that good governance and delivery remain the strongest tools for political success. The spokesperson commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a peaceful and transparent election, as well as security agencies for maintaining order throughout the voting process.
He also mentioned that the result reaffirmed that electoral victories are earned through planning and performance. Oladejo advised political actors to engage citizens constructively and strengthen their grassroots connections. He added that consistent delivery at the local level would enhance public trust.
Building a Stronger Democratic Process
Oladejo urged political leaders to draw lessons from Anambra to improve future elections. He stated that the APC remains committed to service, development, and national unity. He emphasized that performance and structure will continue to define electoral outcomes in Nigeria.
The spokesperson congratulated APC members and supporters in Anambra for their commitment and resilience. He expressed that the Lagos APC shared in the optimism of a stronger democratic process. Oladejo encouraged all parties to prioritize peaceful campaigns and credible electoral participation.
He also highlighted that democracy grows when politicians respect the will of the people. The Anambra poll outcome, he said, should inspire renewed focus on issue-based politics.
Commitment to Development and Inclusion
The Lagos APC, according to Oladejo, would continue to support policies promoting development and inclusion. He reiterated the party’s goal of delivering good governance across all levels. Oladejo urged citizens to remain engaged and support democratic institutions.
He expressed optimism that the party would continue to expand its reach nationwide. With a strong focus on governance, structure, and public engagement, the APC aims to maintain its position as a leading political force in Nigeria.
