Major Breakthrough in Murder Case
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Eunice Masemola, a 31-year-old woman who was reported missing after leaving her home on Sunday, 28 January 2024, at Thornhill Estate. Her lifeless body was later discovered with multiple gunshot wounds on the same evening at Rita gravel road within the Sebayeng policing area.
A case of murder was initially opened at Sebayeng SAPS and later transferred to the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit for further investigations. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the members of the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit for their remarkable efforts in apprehending a 25-year-old male suspect allegedly involved in the crime.
Through intensive intelligence-driven investigations, the police managed to identify the main suspect. He was traced and arrested while at his residence in Botlokwa on Wednesday night, 06 March 2024. Following this arrest, the suspect led the police to a residential area at Dalmada Plots outside Polokwane. Upon arrival, they found a 33-year-old male in possession of an unlicensed firearm, which is believed to have been used to commit the murder.
The 33-year-old suspect was immediately arrested on the spot for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Preliminary investigations indicated that the 25-year-old suspect had already received a substantial amount of cash prior to his arrest. In addition, police managed to seize a VW Polo motor vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
The 25-year-old suspect is expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 08 March 2024, facing charges of premeditated murder, defeating the ends of justice, money laundering, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and ammunition. The 33-year-old suspect will also appear at Polokwane Magistrate’s Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
