Overview of the Anambra State Governorship Election Results
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the collation of results for the Anambra State governorship election, which took place across 5,718 polling units throughout the state. The process is currently underway at INEC’s headquarters in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State. This exercise is being closely supervised by the state Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edogah Omoregie.
Dr Queen Awgu, the Residential Electoral Commissioner for the state, emphasized the significance of the exercise during her welcome address, stating, “This exercise is to declare the outcome of the election held on November 8, 2025.” The process began after the sorting and counting of results concluded in a largely peaceful poll conducted across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.
As of press time, INEC had uploaded over 99% of the election results onto its Results Viewing Portal. However, the election was not without controversy, as there were widespread allegations of vote-buying and other electoral infractions reported across the state.
Despite the early arrival of election materials in many polling units, voter turnout was relatively low. Nevertheless, more voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the election, indicating some level of preparedness among the electorate.
