A Platform for Emerging Agricultural Scientists

Peradeniya University’s Agriculture Faculty is set to host the Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Research Symposium (FAURS 2025) on November 7. This annual event serves as a vital platform for young agricultural scientists to present their research findings, engage in academic discussions, and explore innovative solutions to pressing agricultural and environmental challenges. The symposium reflects the faculty’s dedication to fostering research-driven innovation and empowering the next generation of leaders in sustainable agriculture.

Diverse Presentations in the Morning Session

The morning session will take place at the Animal Science Department and will include both oral and poster presentations. These presentations will cover a wide range of research areas within agriculture, showcasing the breadth and depth of undergraduate inquiry at the faculty. Students will have the opportunity to communicate their work, exchange insights, and receive valuable academic feedback from peers and faculty members.

Keynote Address and Guest Speakers

The closing session is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in the Diamond Jubilee Auditorium. It will feature a panel of distinguished guests. Dr. Patrick McNamara, Executive Director of the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, will deliver the keynote address. David Pines, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Bangladesh, will serve as the Chief Guest.

Three-Minute Thesis Competition and Awards

The session will also include the final round of the three-minute thesis competition, where students will present their research in a concise and impactful manner. This competition encourages students to distill their complex research into a clear and compelling narrative. Following the competition, an awarding ceremony will recognize outstanding student research and academic excellence.

Annual Research Excellence Awards

The event will conclude with the Annual Research Excellence Awards, which honor academic staff for their contributions to research and innovation. These awards highlight the faculty’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating excellence in agricultural research and education.
