Recognition of Excellence in Teacher Education
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has recognized the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, as one of the leading institutions in the country for training educators in the basic education sector. This acknowledgment highlights the college’s significant contributions to the development of quality teachers who are essential for the growth of Nigeria’s education system.
During the third induction ceremony for 905 graduating students, the Director of Certification and Licensing at TRCN, Okunola Abibola Hammed, expressed his admiration for the college’s academic performance. He emphasized that the students have consistently excelled in the council’s professional and computer-based competency examinations. Hammed, who represented the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of TRCN, Dr (Mrs) Ronke Soyombo, praised the institution for its commitment to producing competent and well-rounded educators.
Hammed described the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo as a “national treasure” and a symbol of inclusive teacher education in Nigeria. He encouraged the college to continue improving its teaching and research facilities to meet global standards. Additionally, he advised the inductees to pursue continuous professional development through retraining and upskilling, aligning with international best practices.

The Oyo State Coordinator of TRCN, Mrs Ruth Adeoye, also highlighted the college’s compliance with TRCN standards and its dedication to producing competent teachers for the education system. She noted that FCE, Oyo is an ideal choice for candidates seeking quality teacher education. Adeoye further encouraged the institution to incorporate artificial intelligence tools into its teaching and research processes, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of educational innovation.
The Provost of the College, Dr Ademola Rauf Salami, attributed the institution’s achievements to the hard work and dedication of both academic and non-academic staff. He stressed the college’s focus on producing graduates who possess the necessary skills and principles to excel in both special and general education. Salami also mentioned that the college has received positive feedback from school heads and employers regarding the quality and professionalism of its graduates.
He commended the TRCN management for its efforts in advancing teacher education and pledged continued collaboration with the council to strengthen the sector further.
