Introduction to Kilgharrah 600
Sri Lanka has taken a significant step forward in the field of engineering and technology with the launch of a unique machine called Kilgharrah 600. This advanced device, valued at USD 156,000, was designed by Thimark Technocreations Engineering Institute. The primary purpose of this machine is to remove waste materials that block the gates of hydroelectric dams. It was created with the goal of empowering Sri Lankan engineers and showcasing their capabilities on an international stage.
The launch event took place in Colombo, where the first order was symbolically handed over to the Kenyan government by Minister of Industries, Sunil Handunnetti. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the country and highlights the potential of local innovation.
Key Highlights from the Launch Event
During the event, Minister Handunnetti emphasized the importance of this moment. He stated that it represents not just a local brand going overseas but also a young entrepreneur introducing his new product to society. The minister noted that Thimark Technocreations Co-founder Tharanga Marasinghe could have simply delivered the product to Kenya as part of a sales procedure. However, he chose to turn this into an occasion that sends a powerful message to new entrepreneurs.
Handunnetti shared that according to the information he received, countries like Germany were also among the bidders for this tender. He pointed out that in a situation where countries like Germany contested the participation of a youth from Badalkumbura itself was a victory. He encouraged the youth and entrepreneurs of the country to become dreamers and fight to achieve their dreams. “This is how we can achieve our future victories,” he said.
The minister also stressed the need for the country to follow the concept of ‘made in Sri Lanka, made for Sri Lanka, and export from Sri Lanka overseas.’ He highlighted that the country should not only earn foreign currency but also save forex. “In the future, we must take more new products to foreign countries,” he added.
Details About the Kilgharrah 600
Thimark Technocreations CEO, MD Tharanga Marasinghe, provided further details about the Kilgharrah 600. He described it as a perfect blend of their experience in steel fabrication and their passion for technological creations. The machine was awarded by Kenya National Power Company (KenGen) and is valued at US$156,000.
Marasinghe explained that the Kilgharrah 600 is special for two reasons. First, it was custom-designed for KenGen requirements by local engineers. Every calculation, dynamic loads, vehicle static calculations, and hydraulic sizing were done by Sri Lankan engineers. Second, it was fully manufactured in their factory using their own machines.
He emphasized that the Kilgharrah 600 is not a prototype or an experiment but a real business venture. Marasinghe mentioned that it is a project that earns profit and confidence. It is the first machine of this type ever designed and built in Sri Lanka and exported to Kenya.
Future Prospects
The success of the Kilgharrah 600 opens up new possibilities for Sri Lankan engineers and entrepreneurs. It demonstrates the potential of local innovation and the ability to compete on an international level. With continued support and investment, Sri Lanka can build on this achievement and develop more groundbreaking technologies.
The launch of the Kilgharrah 600 is a testament to the skills and creativity of Sri Lankan engineers. It serves as an inspiration for future generations and highlights the importance of investing in local talent and innovation. As the country continues to grow and develop, such achievements will play a crucial role in shaping its future.
