Korean Star Kim Hyun-soo Honored with Rolex by LG Chairman

LG Twins Celebrate 2025 KBO League Unified Championship

The LG Twins baseball team recently held a commemorative event to celebrate their 2025 KBO League Unified Championship victory. The event took place on the 6th at the Gondeokam Resort in Gyeonggi Province and was hosted by LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, the team’s owner. Approximately 120 attendees, including Chairman Koo, LG Group officials, players, and front-office staff, were present for the celebration.

Kim Hyun-soo Honored as MVP

Kim Hyun-soo, the 2025 Korean Series MVP, was recognized for his outstanding performance during the championship series. He led the LG Twins to victory after two years of hard work and dedication. Kim recorded 9 hits, including 1 home run, in 17 at-bats over 5 games, with 8 RBIs. His most memorable moment came in Game 4, where he hit a game-tying, walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. This achievement earned him the prestigious Rolex watch worth 100 million Korean won as the MVP award.

Chairman Koo Kwang-mo presented the watch to Kim Hyun-soo, highlighting the significance of the tradition. “Presenting a Rolex to the Korean Series MVP is a tradition born from the passion and love for the baseball team shown by the late Chairman Koo Bon-moo, our first team owner. We will continue this tradition to honor his legacy and hope to celebrate such glorious moments more frequently.”

This tradition dates back to when the late Chairman Koo Bon-moo left behind a high-end Rolex watch, which was previously awarded to Oh Ji-hwan, the Korean Series MVP during the team’s 29-year-unified championship in the 2023 season.

Kim Hyun-soo Expresses Gratitude

Upon receiving the watch, Kim Hyun-soo expressed his gratitude to the owner for the meaningful gift. “I am grateful to the owner for this meaningful gift. Thanks to the manager, coaches, and great teammates, I was able to achieve two championships. I hope our players perform well next year so another teammate can receive this Rolex watch.”

His words reflect the deep appreciation he has for the support he received from his team and the organization. Kim also emphasized the importance of teamwork and the collective effort that contributed to the championship victory.

Updated Merit Payment Rules

LG submitted and received approval from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) earlier this year for its merit payment plan for championship rewards. This move comes after controversy in 2023 regarding whether the Rolex award to Oh Ji-hwan violated regulations. In response, the KBO revised its merit payment rules in January 2024.

Under the updated guidelines, teams may present championship awards if they submit and gain approval for their reward plans before the season begins. This ensures transparency and compliance with the regulations while allowing teams to recognize outstanding performances.

Looking Ahead

As the LG Twins celebrate their recent victory, the focus now shifts to the upcoming season. With the continued support of the organization and the strong foundation built by the current team, there is optimism about future successes. The tradition of recognizing excellence through awards like the Rolex watch not only honors past achievements but also motivates the players to strive for even greater accomplishments in the future.
