Lagos Shifts Traffic for 10th Women’s Run Saturday

Lagos Women Run 2024: Traffic Diversion and Safety Measures Announced

The Lagos State Government has announced a series of traffic diversions in preparation for the 10th edition of the Lagos Women Run, an event set to take place on Saturday starting at 6 am. This annual all-female running event is organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission in collaboration with various stakeholders.

The race will begin at Tafawa Balewa Square and conclude at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan. As part of the preparations, several key roads and junctions will be partially closed to accommodate the event. These include:

  • TBS (Tafawa Balewa Square)
  • Water Board
  • Old NITEL
  • Outer Marina
  • Officers Mess
  • Bonny Camp Bridge
  • State House
  • Ahmadu Bello Way
  • Akin Adesola Street
  • Falomo Bridge
  • Falomo Roundabout
  • Awolowo Road
  • Onikan Roundabout
  • Mobolaji Johnson Arena

To ensure smooth operations and the safety of both participants and motorists, officials from LASTMA (Lagos State Traffic Management Authority), the Police, FRSC (Federal Road Safety Corps), and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps will be deployed across the affected areas. Their primary role will be to manage traffic flow and provide assistance to those navigating the diverted routes.

Recommended Alternative Routes for Motorists

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the event to avoid disruptions. Specific directions have been provided for different areas:

  • From Ozumba Mbadiwe to Third Mainland Bridge: Drivers should proceed via Bonny Camp to Onikan Underpass, then link to Marina Exit and Force Road. From there, they can connect to Outer Marina and continue their journey to the Third Mainland Bridge.
  • From Apongbon to Ikoyi: Motorists are encouraged to take Odunlami Street, which connects to Igbosere Road and Moloney Street. This route will lead to Ikoyi Road, allowing them to continue their trip without encountering road closures.

Call for Public Cooperation

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged residents and drivers to cooperate with traffic officials during the event. He emphasized that the traffic diversions are temporary and necessary to ensure the success of the Lagos Women Run.

Osiyemi also assured the public that the event would not cause long-term disruptions and that efforts would be made to minimize inconvenience. The Lagos Women Run continues to be a significant platform for promoting health, fitness, and empowerment among women in the state.
