A Response to Violence in Ehi
The recent violent incident in Ehi has sparked a strong response from local authorities, who have taken immediate steps to restore order and ensure the safety of the community. Reverend Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, has condemned the act and pledged swift action to address the situation.
Firsthand Assessment of the Situation
Rev. Amenaki responded to a distress call late on Monday night and conducted an on-site assessment of the incident. His involvement highlighted the seriousness of the matter and the commitment of local leadership to resolving it effectively. The MCE emphasized the importance of understanding the situation firsthand before taking any measures.
A Joint Effort with Security Officials
On early Tuesday morning, Rev. Amenaki led a team that included the Municipal Police Commander, the Crime Officer, a BNI Officer, and other senior security officials. This team was dispatched to the affected community to assess the damage and coordinate with local leaders.
The delegation first paid a courtesy call on the Dufia of Ehi, Torgbui Dzeble Adukpo IV, and his elders. These traditional leaders expressed deep concern about the incident and pledged their full cooperation with the police. Their support is crucial in ensuring peace and facilitating ongoing investigations.
Inspection and Support for Victims
Accompanied by the traditional leaders, the MCE inspected the extent of damage to the Ehi Police Station. He also visited injured police officers and civilians to ensure they received adequate medical attention and support. This step underscored the MCE’s commitment to the well-being of all individuals involved.
Rev. Amenaki described these engagements as “productive,” noting that both the traditional authorities and security agencies were aligned in their commitment to restoring normalcy. He confirmed that calm had since been restored, with security presence reinforced to avert further disturbances.
Additional Support from Regional Authorities
The Volta Regional Police Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr. Wisdom Akorli, also arrived later in the day to provide additional backing to local law enforcement. His presence demonstrated the regional government’s support for the efforts being made to maintain peace and stability.
Mr. Akorli condemned the violence in strong terms, stressing that such acts were unacceptable and tarnished the reputation of the Ketu North Municipality. His remarks reflected a shared concern among local and regional authorities about the impact of such incidents on the community.
Commitment to Justice and Peace
Rev. Amenaki assured residents that the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), working closely with the police, would ensure justice is served and that all victims receive the necessary care. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation between the community and security agencies in maintaining peace.
“We sympathize with the victims and encourage everyone to remain law-abiding as we continue to protect the peace that defines our beloved Municipality,” he said.
Ongoing Efforts for Stability
The actions taken by the MCE and regional authorities demonstrate a coordinated effort to address the root causes of the violence and prevent future incidents. The focus remains on restoring trust within the community and reinforcing the role of traditional and security institutions in maintaining order.
As the investigation continues, the commitment of local leaders to transparency and accountability will be critical in ensuring that justice is served and that the community can move forward with confidence.
