Kingsley Udeh Confirmed as Minister in President Tinubu’s Cabinet
The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the nomination of Kingsley Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Attorney-General of Enugu State, as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. This development marks a significant step in the formation of the new administration, as Udeh is set to take on a key role within the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Udeh’s confirmation took place on Wednesday following a rigorous screening session conducted by the upper legislative chamber. During the session, he addressed various questions from senators, emphasizing his dedication to serving the nation with integrity and professionalism.
When asked how he would handle responsibilities if assigned to a ministry outside his legal expertise, Udeh expressed confidence in his ability to adapt. “If you are a good lawyer, you should be able to fit in any area of life,” he stated. “By the grace of God, my career and professional stints have spanned various aspects of life.”
His response was met with approval from many lawmakers, who recognized his broad experience and potential contributions to the government.
After the screening process, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the nomination to a voice vote, which was unanimously approved. Akpabio praised Udeh for his qualifications and described him as a “capable and well-rounded professional.”
“Let me thank Mr President for the nomination of Dr Kingsley Udeh,” Akpabio said. “He appears to be fit and proper to be a minister. He has acquitted himself as a well-bred Nigerian child, acknowledging his parents. I hope he will bring his wealth of experience to add value to the federal cabinet and help realize the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President.”
With his confirmation, Udeh is expected to join the FEC as a replacement for Uche Nnaji, also from Enugu State. Nnaji recently resigned as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology due to allegations of certificate forgery. His departure created an opportunity for Udeh to step into a critical role within the administration.
Udeh’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by President Tinubu to strengthen his cabinet with experienced legal professionals. As a SAN, Udeh brings a deep understanding of the law, which is essential for navigating the complex challenges facing the country.
The confirmation of Udeh reflects the Senate’s commitment to ensuring that only qualified individuals hold positions of power. It also underscores the importance of maintaining high standards of integrity and competence in public service.
As Udeh prepares to assume his new role, there is growing anticipation about the impact he will have on policy-making and governance. His background in law and public service positions him well to contribute meaningfully to the goals of the current administration.
The next phase for Udeh will involve working closely with other ministers to implement the president’s agenda and address the pressing issues facing Nigeria. His ability to navigate different areas of governance will be crucial in shaping the direction of the country.
Overall, the confirmation of Kingsley Udeh signals a new chapter for the Nigerian government, one that emphasizes professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to progress.
