2026 Hajj: NAHCON Completes Hotel and Feeding Assessment in Madinah

Comprehensive Inspection of Hajj Facilities in Madinah

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has completed a thorough inspection of accommodation and catering facilities in Madinah, as part of its early preparations for the 2026 Hajj operations. This initiative marks a significant step in ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims are well-supported during their religious journey.

The three-day inspection took place from November 3 to 5, 2025, and was led by Professor Abubakar A. Yagawal, Commissioner in charge of Planning, Research, Statistics, Information, and Library Services (PRSILS). The team’s primary objective was to evaluate the readiness of service providers in Madinah, focusing on both lodging and food services.

According to a statement by Ahmad Muazu, Technical Assistant (Media) to the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, the inspection team included representatives from various key organizations. These included the Office of the Vice President, NAHCON board members, the State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards Forum, and senior management officials of the Commission. This diverse group ensured a comprehensive assessment of all relevant factors.

Muazu explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the readiness of accommodation and feeding service providers for the 2026 pilgrimage. The team conducted on-site checks of over 20 hotels and seven catering facilities within the markaziyya area of Madinah. During these visits, they verified operational documents and ensured compliance with Saudi regulations as well as NAHCON’s standards.

He noted that the assessment showed a strong level of compliance with the Commission’s guidelines, particularly in areas of safety, hygiene, and service quality. This positive outcome reflects the efforts of service providers in meeting the high expectations set by NAHCON.

Before the team’s departure to Madinah, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, inaugurated the inspection committee in Makkah. He urged members to uphold integrity, impartiality, and transparency throughout the exercise.

“Integrity, impartiality, and transparency must guide every aspect of this inspection. You are to discharge your responsibilities with diligence and professional discipline,” Professor Usman stated, emphasizing that the welfare, safety, and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims remain the Commission’s top priority.

He further reaffirmed NAHCON’s commitment to strengthening its regulatory framework, promoting accountability among service providers, and ensuring that pilgrims receive full value for services rendered. This approach is essential in maintaining the trust and confidence of the Nigerian Muslim community.

The inspection team is expected to submit a detailed report to NAHCON management for review and subsequent policy action ahead of the 2026 Hajj. This report will serve as a crucial reference point for future planning and improvements.
