Ekiti State Government’s Commitment to Revitalizing Technical Education
The Ekiti State Government has shown a strong commitment to revitalizing the education sector by creating an environment conducive for teaching and learning, along with providing modern equipment across all schools in the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of technical and vocational education.
During a routine monitoring visit to technical colleges in Otun Ekiti, Ijero Ekiti, and Igbara Odo Ekiti, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, the Commissioner for Education, emphasized the government’s dedication to improving technical education. The visit was aimed at assessing the compliance of contractors with project standards.
Aderiye highlighted that the ongoing facility upgrades under the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project are key to repositioning technical and vocational education in the state. She stated:
“The various IDEAS facility upgrades going on in the schools are aimed at revitalising technical education in Ekiti by providing a conducive teaching and learning environment, as well as modern equipment for skills acquisition.”
She also urged the contractors handling the renovation and upgrade works to expedite their progress while strictly adhering to the approved quality standards. Aderiye commended the current progress and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that every technical college in the state becomes a model of excellence in vocational training.
Key Components of the Project
The IDEAS project includes several critical components designed to improve the educational infrastructure:
- Facility Upgrades:The project involves upgrading school facilities to create a better learning environment for students.
- Modern Equipment:The introduction of modern equipment is intended to enhance the practical skills of students.
- Power Supply Solutions:The installation of solar power inverters and 20KVA generators in the three colleges will ensure an uninterrupted power supply during practical sessions, thereby improving students’ hands-on learning experiences.
Mrs Adenike Akinyemi, the Project Coordinator for IDEAS, who was part of the inspection team alongside members of the State Project Implementation Unit, explained that the visit was part of efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money in project execution under the Biodun Oyebanji administration.

Principals of the colleges expressed their appreciation to the state government and the IDEAS project for their interventions. They described the ongoing upgrades as a major boost to technical and vocational education in the state.
