Elegbeleye Seeks More NPFL Collaborations

Strategic Partnerships and Commercial Expansion

The Nigeria Premier League (NPFL) is taking significant steps to enhance its commercial operations and expand its reach across the country. Chairman of the NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has emphasized that the league is open to more partnerships as it moves into an era of commercial innovation, content expansion, and wider access.

On Wednesday, the NPFL board announced a five-year data management and commercialisation agreement with two key partners: Inview Technologies Nigeria Limited and AS Production Hub Limited. This deal aims to make NPFL matches accessible on free-to-air television as well as designated digital platforms.

The agreement, valued at N2 billion, includes a mandatory upfront payment of N800 million as an activation fee. This move marks a crucial step in the league’s strategy to increase its visibility and accessibility for fans across Nigeria.

Elegbeleye highlighted that this partnership is just one part of a broader strategy. “This agreement with Inview and AS Production Hub does not shut the door to other broadcasters. The league is being unbundled, which means more broadcasters are welcome to come in. More partners mean more revenue, more coverage, and ultimately more development for our clubs and players.”

He further explained that the focus is on ensuring that every Nigerian home—whether in villages, towns, or major cities—can easily watch the NPFL. “Our focus now is to create consistent, quality content that will be available on as many platforms as possible,” Elegbeleye stated during the signing of the deal in Abuja.

Additional Commercial Engagements

In addition to the partnership with Inview and AS Production Hub, the NPFL has also signed a separate strategic data partnership worth over N600 million with Round Up Technology. This deal includes an annual payment of N140 million for technical data services covering players, match statistics, analytics, and league performance parameters.

This collaboration underscores the league’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve the fan experience and provide valuable insights into the game. By integrating advanced data solutions, the NPFL aims to enhance the quality of content and offer a more engaging experience for viewers.

Future Prospects

With these new partnerships, the NPFL is positioning itself for sustainable growth and increased revenue. The league’s strategy of welcoming multiple broadcasters and partners ensures that there is a diverse range of platforms for fans to access the games, thereby increasing the league’s overall reach and influence.

The focus on commercial innovation and content expansion is expected to bring more investment into the league, which can then be used to support the development of clubs and players. This approach not only benefits the teams but also enhances the overall quality of football in Nigeria.

As the NPFL continues to explore new opportunities and build stronger relationships with various stakeholders, it is clear that the league is committed to evolving and adapting to the changing landscape of sports media and commercialization.
