IBA-CED and Sapphire Consulting Launch Sindh’s First Startup Accelerator

A New Era for Entrepreneurship in Sindh

Sindh is witnessing a groundbreaking development in its entrepreneurial ecosystem with the launch of the province’s first government-supported startup accelerator. This initiative, a collaboration between the IBA Centre for Entrepreneurial Development (IBA-CED) and Sapphire Consulting Services, marks a significant milestone in fostering innovation and supporting high-potential startups.

The partnership brings together the public sector, private industry, and academia in a unique alliance aimed at nurturing startups and driving innovation across Sindh. The accelerator program is designed to provide entrepreneurs registered in Sindh with an eight-month structured journey that includes business advisory services, mentorship from industry experts, and access to potential investors.

Startups selected for the program will focus on refining their business models, building market traction, and preparing for fundraising. The program will culminate in a Demo Day event held at IBA Karachi, offering participants a platform to showcase their ventures to a broader audience.

This initiative represents one of the first instances where a Sindh government fund has supported a structured academic-industry accelerator. The signing ceremony took place at the SEDF headquarters in Karachi, with key figures from both the public and private sectors in attendance. The agreement was formally signed by Khizar Pervaiz, CEO of SEDF; Dr Lalarukh Ejaz, Director of IBA-CED; and Faizan Gul Shaikh from Sapphire Consulting Services.

Key representatives from the Government of Sindh, including Syed Qassim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Investment and PPP Projects, and Raja Khurrum Shahzad Umar, Secretary of the Investment Department, played a pivotal role in bringing this project to life. Their involvement highlights the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth through strategic partnerships.

The project aims to scale growth-ready startups by providing them with structured business support, strategic mentorship, and clear pathways to investment. This initiative is not just about nurturing individual startups but also about building a sustainable innovation ecosystem that contributes to long-term economic growth and competitiveness in Sindh.

Key Components of the Accelerator Program

  • Business Advisory: Startups will receive tailored guidance to refine their business strategies and operations.
  • Mentorship: Access to experienced industry professionals who will provide insights and support throughout the program.
  • Investor Access: Opportunities to connect with potential investors, enhancing the chances of securing funding.
  • Demo Day: A final event where startups can present their ventures to a wider audience, including potential investors and stakeholders.

Vision for the Future

The collaboration between IBA-CED and Sapphire Consulting Services is a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of entrepreneurship in driving economic development. By creating a supportive environment for startups, Sindh is positioning itself as a hub for innovation and creativity.

With the backing of the government and the involvement of key stakeholders, this accelerator program is expected to have a lasting impact on the entrepreneurial landscape of Sindh. It sets a precedent for future collaborations that prioritize innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.

As the program progresses, it will be interesting to see how the participating startups evolve and contribute to the broader economy. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for other regions looking to foster similar ecosystems.
