Moroccan U-17 Women’s Football Team Shows Promise
Italian women’s football talent scout Ivan Amicosante has expressed admiration for the technical skills and potential of Morocco’s U-17 women’s national team. He highlighted their impressive performance during the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which took place in Morocco from October 17 to November 8.
Despite a 6–1 loss to North Korea in the Round of 16, Amicosante described the team’s performance as “the beginning of a promising journey” for Moroccan women’s football. He emphasized that reaching the Round of 16 was a clear sign of growth for the national team.
“The Moroccan national team is definitely growing, and reaching the Round of 16 is proof of that,” Amicosante told foot-careEN. “They still have a long way to go, but they’re on the right path.”
He pointed out that the increasing investment in women’s football, from club infrastructure to youth development, is already yielding positive results across all levels, including the senior, U-20, and U-17 squads.
“I believe many of these young players are the future of football in the coming years,” he said.
Standout Players and Talent Development
Amicosante specifically praised striker Mayssa Baha, who was born in 2011 and currently plays for Barcelona Juvenil. He called her one of the standout players of the tournament.
“Some of them are very technical players,” he said. “Considering that Mayssa is only fourteen and already at Barcelona, it’s clear that the quality and talent are there — they just need the right guidance.”
Another player he highlighted was Kautar Azraf, a 17-year-old forward for Barcelona B who represented Morocco at the tournament. Amicosante noted that she exemplifies the country’s growing pool of young talent.
Hosting the World Cup: A Success Story
Amicosante also commended the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for its excellent organization of the World Cup. He praised the event, noting that teams and families were able to enjoy their time in Morocco.
“I admit I was pleasantly surprised by the overall level of this World Cup,” he said. “Morocco has done a great job hosting such a high-quality event for the first time on African soil.”
The Future of Women’s Football in Morocco
The scout’s comments reflect a broader trend of progress in Moroccan women’s football. With continued investment and support, the country is positioning itself as a rising force in the global football landscape.
As more young talents emerge and gain international exposure, the future looks bright for Moroccan women’s football. The success of the U-17 team at the World Cup is just the beginning of what could be a transformative era for the sport in the region.
