A Commitment to Legacy and Community Welfare
The Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Hon. Seyi Jakande, has made it clear that his administration is dedicated to continuing the legacy of his late father, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the former Governor of Lagos State. His focus remains on improving the welfare of the people within the LCDA.
During a media briefing held on Thursday, Jakande presented his 100 days in office scorecard, outlining key priorities such as education, healthcare, security, and youth empowerment. He emphasized that his leadership is guided by the principles established by his father during his tenure as governor.
“My father, Late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, focused more on education, housing, and the well-being of Lagosians. I am currently following his legacy,” he said. Jakande assumed office on July 28, 2025, and immediately set out to address pressing challenges within the LCDA.
Addressing Security Challenges
One of his first priorities was tackling security issues, particularly around the Ashaolu Bridge, which had become a hotspot for criminal activities. To combat this, Jakande’s administration formed a joint security task force, deployed 24-hour surveillance, installed CCTV cameras, and implemented hybrid lighting systems. These measures have significantly reduced crime in the area.
Infrastructure Development
In terms of infrastructure, Jakande announced that the council has started the rehabilitation of 14 roads, including Ibadan Street, Adegboyega Street, Adelakun Street, Adedoja Street, Akala Street, Adewusi Street, and Omotayo Street, among others. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and accessibility within the LCDA.
Education Initiatives
Jakande also highlighted achievements in the education sector. His administration has sustained the free school bus service initiated by his predecessor, distributed free textbooks and exercise books, and launched the “Joko Jollof” initiative—a weekly feeding program that provides nutritious meals to over 3,000 pupils across 28 primary schools every Friday.
Additionally, the council organized spelling bee competitions to enhance the spelling and vocabulary skills of students. These efforts are aimed at fostering a culture of learning and academic excellence.
Healthcare Improvements
On the healthcare front, Jakande revealed that six primary health centers have been upgraded, and the administration is working to digitally connect them for seamless access to medical data. The council also held a free medical outreach called “Jako Medical Outreach” in partnership with Eko Club Atlanta.
Youth and Sports Development
In the realm of youth and sports development, the council recently hosted the Chairman’s Cup and is planning a Sports Festival to nurture young talents and engage youths positively. Jakande also mentioned that his administration interviewed 1,000 youths, with 600 selected and trained in various IT skills to improve their career prospects.
Commitment to Inclusive Governance
Jakande reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, pledging continued support for women, children, the elderly, and persons living with disabilities. He emphasized that the welfare of the people will remain the top priority of his administration.
