Introduction to the StartupAfrica Innovation Olympiad
The StartupAfrica Innovation Olympiad, organized by Nation Media Group-Uganda (NMG-U) and its partners, recently concluded with a remarkable showcase of youth-driven innovation. The event took place at Makerere University’s Central Teaching Facility and highlighted numerous groundbreaking projects aimed at addressing real-world challenges through technology and entrepreneurship.
Among the 19 competing projects, one stood out as the Best Innovation: the Ecoflash dryer, a biomass-cum-solar powered cassava flour dryer developed by students from Makerere and Kyambogo universities. This innovative project not only won the competition but also received a cash prize of $1,500 (Shs5.2 million) to support its growth and scalability.
