My Political Journey: A Miracle, Says Jonathan

A Political Journey Marked by Miracles

Former President Goodluck Jonathan recently reflected on his political journey, calling it “a political miracle.” This statement was made during an event at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos, where books written by journalist and former presidential spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati, were presented.

Jonathan shared his personal experiences, stating, “My political journey looked like a political miracle. From deputy governor to becoming president of this country within four years — it was a miracle. It’s only God that made it possible.” His words highlighted the unexpected nature of his rise to power, which many considered improbable given the political landscape at the time.

He also commended Abati for his intellectual depth and for documenting his experience in government. The former president emphasized the importance of storytelling in preserving history and understanding the complexities of governance.

A Celebration of Truth and Progress

The event was chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who praised Abati for his evolution as a journalist, commentator, political aide, politician, and now author. Obasanjo spoke about the importance of truth as an essential attribute for both personal and national success. He remarked, “On what I regard as essential attributes of life for success and nation-building, I’m happy that now that you have seen it all, those essential attributes are as important to you today as they were to me then.”

He further expressed pride in Abati, referring to him as a “son” in the context of their shared values and dedication to truth. Obasanjo added, “There’s a difference between progress and success. You’ve made progress; now you have to make success, and may God continue to help you to make success.”
