A Call for Investment in Science and Technology

During the event, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, emphasized the need for Nigeria to make deliberate investments in science, technology, and innovation. He highlighted the significance of these areas in driving national development and enhancing global competitiveness.

Arigbabu noted that the world is currently in an “intelligent age,” driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology. He stressed that no nation can achieve sustainable growth without prioritizing scientific research and innovation. His message was clear: Nigeria must shift from being a consumer of technology to a creator of it.

He further stated, “We must build a society where curiosity is cultivated and creativity rewarded. Nigeria must move from consumption to creation. This new age amplifies cognition, augmenting human intelligence with machine capability. But as machines grow smarter, our responsibility deepens. We must ensure that automation does not replace human dignity and that AI serves inclusive human progress.”

Digital Education Reforms in Ogun State

Arigbabu also spoke about the ongoing digital education reforms being implemented by the state government. These initiatives include the introduction of smart classrooms, virtual learning platforms, and teacher training programs focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Additionally, solar power is being used in schools that lack access to electricity, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to learn and grow.

Commitment to Nurturing Future Innovators

The Vice Chancellor of Mountain Top University, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, expressed the institution’s commitment to nurturing problem-solvers who can drive technological advancement and contribute to national development. He described the conference as a vital platform for encouraging young minds to explore the possibilities of science and innovation.
