Strengthening Bilateral Ties Through Comprehensive Collaboration
Trkiye’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, recently met with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, in Islamabad. The meeting aimed to enhance collaboration between the two nations in several critical areas, including counterterrorism, anti-narcotics operations, human trafficking prevention, border management, cybercrime, coast guard coordination, and police training.
Yerlikaya was welcomed warmly at the Ministry of Interior, where he engaged in both one-on-one and delegation-level discussions with his Pakistani counterpart. These meetings underscored the importance of fostering stronger ties between the two countries, particularly in addressing shared security challenges.
Establishing a Joint Working Group for Institutionalized Cooperation
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to establish aJoint Working Groupto institutionalize cooperation between the interior ministries of Trkiye and Pakistan. This group will meet four times a year to monitor progress and advance joint initiatives. The formation of this group marks a significant step toward creating a structured framework for ongoing collaboration.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counterterrorism efforts. Minister Naqvi emphasized that “Pakistan’s security is inseparable from Trkiye’s security,” highlighting the mutual interests of both nations in maintaining regional stability. In response, Yerlikaya praised Pakistan’s proactive role in combating terrorism and drug trafficking, acknowledging the country’s contributions to global security.
Expanding Cooperation on Immigration Control and Anti-Human Trafficking
The discussion also focused on deepening cooperation on immigration control and anti-human trafficking measures. Minister Naqvi stressed the need for global cooperation against human trafficking and illegal migration, while announcing Pakistan’s support for Trkiye in the upcoming Interpol elections. He highlighted the exceptional performance of Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force despite limited resources, noting that no drug trafficking cases from Pakistan to Trkiye were reported in the past five years.
This collaboration extends beyond traditional security concerns. Both sides agreed to expand police training programs and share expertise across law enforcement agencies. Such efforts aim to build capacity and improve the effectiveness of law enforcement in both countries.
Reaffirming the ‘Brotherly Bond’ Between Trkiye and Pakistan
Minister Yerlikaya reiterated Trkiye’s “brotherly bond” with Pakistan, expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended during the visit. He emphasized that the formation of the Joint Working Group would further strengthen bilateral ties and promote long-term cooperation.
The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries, including the Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Secretary of Interior, and heads of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), and Islamabad Police.
