Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Attend Azerbaijan’s Victory Day Celebrations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to make a one-day visit to Azerbaijan on Saturday to participate in the country’s Victory Day celebrations. This announcement was confirmed by diplomatic sources on Monday, highlighting the significance of the event and the growing ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The commemorations in Baku are held to mark Azerbaijan’s military success in reclaiming territories from Armenia during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The event is a key moment for the nation to honor its achievements and the sacrifices made during the conflict. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also expected to attend the ceremony, underscoring the importance of regional alliances and shared interests.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to hold several high-level meetings. These include discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, senior government officials, and President Erdogan. The primary focus of these talks will be on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing regional cooperation, and exploring potential joint initiatives that could benefit both nations.

Officials have also indicated that President Aliyev is expected to visit Pakistan in the coming months. This planned visit is part of broader efforts to further strengthen political and economic ties between the two countries. The last meeting between the two leaders took place in September on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.

Victory Day is an annual observance in Azerbaijan, dedicated to commemorating the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh. It serves as a reminder of the country’s resilience and determination during the conflict. Pakistan and Turkey have consistently provided strong diplomatic and political support to Baku throughout the crisis, reinforcing their trilateral partnership and mutual strategic interests.

The visit by Prime Minister Sharif highlights the deepening relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Both nations share common goals in promoting regional stability and fostering economic collaboration. The ongoing dialogue between the leaders reflects a commitment to building a more interconnected and cooperative region.

The presence of Turkish President Erdogan at the event further emphasizes the significance of the trilateral relationship. The three nations have worked together to address regional challenges and support each other’s interests in various international forums.

As the global landscape continues to evolve, the strategic partnerships between Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey play a crucial role in shaping regional dynamics. The upcoming meetings and visits are expected to lay the groundwork for future collaborations and initiatives that can drive economic growth and political stability in the region.

This visit by Prime Minister Sharif not only strengthens diplomatic ties but also reinforces the shared values and objectives of the participating nations. The continued engagement between these countries is a positive step toward achieving long-term peace and prosperity in the region.
