Poor Handling of Gold Tree Products Impacts Quality – CPC’s MD

Professor William Coffie Urges Distributors to Prioritize Product Safety and Quality

Professor William Coffie, the Managing Director of the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), has emphasized the importance of proper handling and storage of CPC’s Gold Tree products during a recent engagement with the Tema Distributors Association of Golden Tree Products. He highlighted that improper practices could significantly impact product quality and the company’s brand reputation.

Prof. Coffie stressed that distributors and sellers must strictly follow recommended guidelines to maintain the integrity of CPC’s products. He noted that the nutritional value of Ghana’s premium-quality cocoa, which is the key ingredient in all CPC’s Golden Tree products, plays a vital role in promoting cocoa consumption through community-level initiatives.

Enhancing Community Engagement and Education

The professor encouraged distributors to actively participate in sensitization campaigns to educate the public about the health benefits of cocoa. Such efforts, he said, would complement CPC’s broader goals of increasing domestic cocoa consumption and helping the public access its numerous nutrients.

He also emphasized the crucial role of distributors within CPC’s business ecosystem. Prof. Coffie mentioned that his leadership team is focused on improving product handling and storage to address issues like pest infestations that can affect chocolate quality.

Policy Changes and Support for Distributors

Key policy decisions have been made by CPC to reposition the company for growth and ensure that distributors and other stakeholders benefit from the transformation agenda. One such decision is the approval of a 15-day credit policy for distributors, aimed at enhancing business flexibility. Special concessions may be granted in exceptional cases.

To ensure a steady supply of products and avoid shortages, Prof. Coffie urged distributors to balance their orders and requests effectively. He commended the loyalty and partnership of distributors, assuring them of CPC’s commitment to building a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship.

Promoting Health Benefits Through Awareness Campaigns

Madam Evelyn Ofosu Kunadu Yiadom, President of the Tema Distributors Association of Golden Tree Products, called for intensified public awareness about the health and nutritional benefits of cocoa consumption. She argued that this approach would not only boost sales but also strengthen the brand’s position in the market.

Madam Kunadu, who is also the Managing Director of KrysCharles Enterprise, highlighted that CPC’s flagship brand, Royale, offers superior health attributes compared to many competing products. She emphasized the need for consistent education and sensitization campaigns in schools, markets, and churches to position the brand as the preferred choice among consumers.

Addressing Concerns from Distributors

Mrs. Doris Annan of Cimthog Foods Enterprise expressed concerns about the practice of introducing new products without involving distributors in critical activities like tasting and sampling. She stressed that distributors, being on the frontline, should provide feedback to help new products succeed.

During an open forum, distributors raised several concerns, including the need for public education on cocoa’s health benefits, price reductions, increased advertising, and brand visibility. They also mentioned persistent product shortages, customers buying directly from the factory, church and institutional outreach opportunities, training on safe handling and storage, and delayed responses to feedback and complaints.

Building a Stronger Distribution Network

The discussions underscored the importance of deeper collaboration between CPC and its distribution network. Distributors emphasized the need for better communication and involvement in product development and marketing strategies.

With a focus on transparency, education, and mutual support, CPC aims to strengthen its relationships with distributors while ensuring the continued success of its products in the market. The company remains committed to fostering a sustainable and thriving business ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders involved.
