Introduction to the New Evaluation System
The People Power Party has announced plans to implement a new ‘qualification exam system’ to assess the capabilities of candidates running for the upcoming June 3 nationwide local elections. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that the party selects individuals who are not only capable but also aligned with its values and goals. The party had previously introduced a similar system known as the ‘PPAT (People Power Aptitude Test)’ during the June 2022 local elections when Lee Jun-seok was the party leader. Now, the party aims to revise and enhance this system to better meet the needs of the upcoming elections.
Key Points from the Party Representative
People Power Party Representative Na Kyung-won addressed the media following a meeting of the party’s local election planning team at the National Assembly. She emphasized the significance of the upcoming local elections, stating that they are not just about selecting individuals who excel in local administration but are critical for the Republic of Korea and its people. Na highlighted that the elections serve as a mid-term evaluation of the Lee Jae-myung administration’s impact on the constitution and people’s livelihoods.
She outlined the most important criteria for nominations, which include “those who fight well for the people” and “those who fight well to accomplish tasks.” Na chairs the local election planning team and stressed the importance of identifying candidates who can effectively represent the party’s values.
Additional Evaluation Methods
Na further explained that the party will introduce additional methods to select suitable candidates. These include not only the existing nomination process but also an evaluation system, a qualification assessment exam, and an audition system designed to identify young talent. She mentioned that the goal is to discover outstanding talents that align with the purpose of the election, which is to judge the Lee Jae-myung administration.
Five Principles for Nomination and Evaluation
The local election planning team presented five key principles for nomination and evaluation criteria:
- Talents who uphold the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea and align with justice and common sense
- Talents with unwavering loyalty to the party who have contributed to its and regional community development
- Young and female talents with expertise and future vision to lead regional development
- Trustworthy talents with morality and character that meet public expectations
- Talents who can communicate with residents and the local community with an open attitude
These principles are intended to guide the selection process and ensure that the party’s candidates are well-suited to represent their communities and advance the party’s agenda. By implementing these standards, the People Power Party aims to strengthen its position and make a meaningful impact in the upcoming local elections.
