Madam Adwoa Amponsah, known as the “tomato queen” among the traders, explained how the current situation has affected their business. She mentioned that the unsanitary conditions and poor infrastructure have slowed down buying and selling activities, leading to a decline in sales and profits. Madam Amponsah urged the Municipal Assembly to provide the necessary facilities, including toilets and washrooms, to improve the overall environment.
Another trader, who goes by the name Afia, shared similar concerns. She noted that the poor sales have put many businesses at risk, particularly those dealing in perishable goods. She explained that the lack of proper storage and waste management systems has caused food to rot quickly, further reducing the income of the traders.
Afia also pointed out that many of the market structures are in dire need of renovation. She emphasized that the facility requires the installation of dustbins and waste containers to enhance waste management and ensure better sanitation. These measures, she believes, would not only improve the working conditions for the traders but also attract more customers to the market.
