The Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. According to him, the Fire Service Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from Usman Adamu on Thursday, reporting that an elderly woman had fallen into a toilet pit in Sarai Village.

Abdullahi stated that the Kano State Fire Service, under the leadership of the Director, Sani Anas, received the distress call at about 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He added that upon arriving at the scene, the rescue team found the victim had been missing for four days.

Relatives informed officials that the deceased had been suffering from mental illness, and despite several days of searching, her whereabouts remained unknown until she was finally found in the pit. Although the Fire Service team successfully retrieved the victim from the pit, she was later confirmed dead.

Abdullahi expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased woman and urged the public to ensure safety within their surroundings. He also emphasized the importance of securing open toilet pits to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The remains of the woman were handed over to the Ward Head of the community, Musa Muhammad. Residents were advised to take necessary precautions to cover open toilet pits and maintain a safe environment in their neighborhoods.
