International Conference and Mushaira on the Role of Iqbal and Nazrul Islam in National Awakening
The fourth day of the international conference and mushaira, titled “The Role of Iqbal and Nazrul Islam in National Awakening,” is scheduled to begin on November 9 and continue until November 10. This event aims to explore the significant contributions of two prominent literary figures, Allama Iqbal and Kazi Nazrul Islam, in shaping national consciousness and cultural identity.
Organized by the Department of Urdu at the university, the conference is being held in collaboration with the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT). According to Associate Professor Md. Golam Mawla, chairperson of the Department of Urdu, the event was announced during a press briefing held at the office of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) on Friday.
The conference will be held at four different venues, including the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the university campus. This multi-location setup ensures that participants can engage in discussions and presentations across various academic and cultural settings.
Over 22 countries are expected to participate in the conference, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, England, the United States, Qatar, Egypt, Canada, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iran, Turkey, Nepal, Malaysia, Mauritius, and Japan, among others. Scholars from these regions will present a total of 127 research papers spread across 18 academic sessions. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics related to the literary and philosophical contributions of Iqbal and Nazrul Islam.
On the evening of November 9, renowned poets from both within the country and abroad will take part in the mushaira and ghazal performances. This cultural segment of the conference will provide an opportunity for poetic expression and artistic exchange.
The inaugural session will feature Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor of the university, as the chief guest. The session will be chaired by Teacher Golam Mawla. Additionally, Prof Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, dean of the Faculty of Arts, will be present as a special guest. The Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) Director General, Dr. Md. Abdul Aziz, and the editor of Daily Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman, will also attend as honorable guests.
