Security Forces Neutralize Bandit in Kebbi State

Security forces in Kebbi State have successfully neutralized a suspected member of the Lakurawa bandit gang during an intense exchange of gunfire in Yeldu District, within the Arewa Local Government Area. This incident marks a significant development in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat rising banditry and restore peace to affected communities.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, confirmed the details of the operation on Thursday through a statement shared with journalists. According to the report, the incident took place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, when a group of bandits launched an attack on Kwagware village. During the raid, they stole several cattle and mobile phones from residents.

Upon receiving reports of the invasion, the Divisional Police Officer in Yeldu quickly organized a joint team consisting of police officers and local vigilantes. The team pursued the attackers and engaged them in a fierce firefight.

During the confrontation, one of the bandits was killed, while the remaining attackers managed to escape into the bush, reportedly suffering from gunshot wounds. In addition, a Tecno mobile phone believed to have been stolen during the raid was recovered. An unregistered motorcycle used by the attackers was also set ablaze by villagers who were celebrating the success of the operation.

Following the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, announced the deployment of additional tactical teams, alongside military reinforcements and local vigilante groups. The aim of this move is to prevent any potential reprisal attacks and to help restore stability to the affected areas.

Sani praised the courage and dedication of the security personnel involved in the operation. He also reiterated the police command’s commitment to continuing its campaign against criminal activities in the state.

“The command remains resolute in its mission to rid Kebbi State of all forms of criminality,” he said. “We will continue to strengthen our collaboration with the military and local vigilantes to ensure lasting peace and security.”

This recent operation is part of a broader effort by Kebbi State authorities to dismantle entrenched bandit networks and rebuild trust among rural communities.
