We Raise Funds for Development on Annual Iragbiji Day – The Monarch

Community-Led Development and Vision for the Future

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, has emphasized that his community uses the annual Iragbiji Day celebration as an opportunity to raise funds aimed at enhancing human, capital, and socio-economic development. This initiative is a key part of the community’s strategy to drive progress and ensure sustainable growth.

Ahead of this year’s Iragbiji Day, which will be celebrated on November 15, the community spokesperson and head of the media and publicity sub-committee, Dr. Jimoh Olorede, released a statement highlighting the achievements and future plans of the town.

The statement was signed by the chairmen of two important groups: the Iragbiji Development Association (IDA) and the 34th Iragbiji Day Planning Committee. These leaders are Dr. Lateef Raheem and Mr. Remi Agboola, respectively.

Iragbiji, a community with a history spanning over six centuries, has experienced remarkable transformation in the past 17 years under the leadership of Oba Olabomi, the 15th Aragbiji. He also serves as Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.

In the statement, Oba Olabomi shared his vision for the community, stating:

“Iragbiji has recorded many achievements since I became the Aragbiji owing to our dedication and commitment to changing the age-long narrative from autocracy to traditional democracy that is development-driven with participatory governance, community engagement and collaboration with government and non-governmental organizations.”

He further highlighted the impact of the community’s efforts in human development, which have led to significant socio-economic and structural advancements.

Key Achievements and Projects

One of the most notable projects currently underway is the construction of the “Civic Center,” a recreational facility that has required hundreds of millions of naira in investment. This project exemplifies the community’s commitment to creating spaces that benefit residents and visitors alike.

Additionally, the community has built an administrative complex that houses both the High Court and Magistrate Court. This achievement was accomplished entirely through local efforts, without any financial support from the government.

Another impressive accomplishment is the construction of a state-of-the-art, ultra-modern palace. This structure stands out as one of the most aesthetically pleasing palaces in South-west Nigeria, reflecting the community’s dedication to preserving its heritage while embracing modernity.

Recognition and Collaboration

The community’s commitment to development has not gone unnoticed. The federal government of Nigeria has taken interest in Iragbiji’s progress, leading to the establishment of a federal university in the area. This initiative was spearheaded by the Iragbiji Indigenous Development Association, under the leadership of the monarch, along with the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, and chaired by Dr. Lateef Raheem.

This recognition underscores the importance of collaboration between the community and various stakeholders, including government and non-governmental organizations.

Call for Support

As the community prepares for this year’s Iragbiji Day celebration, there is a strong appeal for generous donations from invited guests, dignitaries, government officials, and other attendees. These contributions are essential for consolidating the ongoing development efforts and ensuring that Iragbiji continues to thrive.

The event serves as a platform not only to celebrate the community’s achievements but also to rally support for future initiatives that will further enhance the quality of life for all residents.
