Zardari urges global equality and inclusive growth at Doha summit

Global Solidarity and Social Integration

President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the significance of creating a socially integrated world based on equality, solidarity, and respect for human rights. His remarks were made during the World Summit for Social Development in Doha, where he called for collective efforts to eliminate poverty in all its forms, promote full and productive employment, and ensure decent work opportunities for everyone.

He highlighted the need for global institutions to become more inclusive and responsive, especially to the needs of countries in the Global South. This call for inclusivity underscores the importance of addressing the disparities that exist between developed and developing nations.

Pakistan’s Commitment to People-Centered Development

The President reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to placing people at the center of its development policies. He noted that the country’s vision for inclusive and sustainable progress closely aligns with the spirit of the Doha Declaration. This alignment reflects a shared commitment to social development and economic equity.

Pakistan has implemented several social welfare initiatives that have had a significant impact on its population. One such initiative is the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which has empowered over nine million families through financial assistance, healthcare, and education support. The program continues to serve as a global benchmark for poverty alleviation and social empowerment.

Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

President Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s determination to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The country aims to raise the literacy rate to 90% and ensure universal school enrollment. These targets reflect a strong commitment to education and long-term development.

Additionally, the National Internship Programme is a key effort to empower the youth of Pakistan. By providing practical experience and skills development, this initiative helps prepare the next generation for the challenges of the modern economy.

Addressing Climate Challenges

In addressing climate challenges, the President stated that Pakistan is investing in climate-resilient growth to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic progress. This approach highlights the importance of environmental sustainability in achieving long-term development goals.

Concerns Over Water Security

President Zardari raised concerns about the emerging “weaponization of water,” expressing worry over violations of the Indus Waters Treaty. He asserted that such actions would not succeed, emphasizing the need for cooperation and adherence to international agreements.

Calls for Just Resolutions

In his concluding remarks, the President reiterated Pakistan’s call for the just resolution of the Palestinian and Jammu and Kashmir disputes in line with the United Nations Security Council resolutions. This statement reflects a commitment to peace and international law.
