Economic Relief and Political Promises in Oyo State
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oyo State has witnessed a significant moment of empowerment as its youths, women, and leaders across the 33 local government areas received N100 million from the economic relief fund. This initiative was made possible through the Bayo Adelabu Foundation (BAF), led by Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu. As a 2027 governorship aspirant under the APC, Adelabu emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Oyo State.
At the event, Adelabu expressed confidence that the APC would return to power in 2027 and promised further empowerment for party members and residents. He described the current ruling party, the PDP, as merely “tenant” in Agodi Government House, stating that the APC would reclaim its rightful position. His words were clear: “Oyo belongs to the progressive; we are the landlord, and we are going back to Agodi Government House in 2027.”
Adelabu also called on party members to unite at all levels—ward, local government, and state—to ensure a strong campaign for the 2027 election. He believed that unity was essential for the APC to achieve victory in the upcoming elections.
The Role of Youth and Women in Political Success
Dr. Stephen Lafenwa, a guest lecturer from the Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan (UI), highlighted the importance of investing in youths, women, and leaders. According to him, any political party that focuses on these groups will be more likely to succeed. He commended the APC in Oyo State for prioritizing the welfare of its members and urged beneficiaries of the relief fund to use it wisely to improve their lives.
Party Leadership’s Response
In his welcome address, the APC chairman in Oyo State, Alhaji Olaide Abass, praised Adelabu for consistently involving the party in his activities. He noted that Adelabu holds the party in high regard and is seen as a representative of the state in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The party secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite, who represented Abass, expressed pride in Adelabu’s efforts to restore the APC’s strength in the state.
He stated, “You are a representative of the state in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; we can boldly say that you represented us very well and we are proud of you.”
Dignitaries and Community Engagement
The event attracted several notable figures, including Alhaji Wasiu Ajimobi, the junior brother of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, the State Woman Leader Alhaja Tinuade Adigun, Hon. Yemi Aderibigbe, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, and Alhaji Wale Sanusi, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the broader support for the APC in Oyo State.
Looking Ahead
As the APC continues to build momentum, the focus remains on uniting the party and delivering tangible benefits to the people. The economic relief provided by Adelabu through the BAF is not just a gesture but a strategic move to strengthen the party’s base and prepare for future elections. With a clear vision and strong leadership, the APC aims to reclaim its position and bring about meaningful change in Oyo State.
