Early Results Show Strong Performance for APC Candidate
In the ongoing 2025 Anambra State election, Prince Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, has claimed victory in his polling unit. The result was officially announced by the Presiding Officer, IfeanyiChukwu Chikams Peace, at approximately 4:01pm on Saturday.
Ukachukwu cast his vote at Polling Unit 12, located in Ward 2, Umudiala village, within the Osumenyi area of Nnewi South Local Government Area. His performance in the booth was impressive, securing 108 votes in Booth 1, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate received only four votes.
In Booth 2, the APC continued its strong showing with 126 votes, compared to six votes for APGA. This indicates a clear preference for the APC in this particular polling unit.
Allegations of Vote Buying and Electoral Challenges
Despite the positive results, Ukachukwu raised concerns about the state of the election process. He alleged widespread vote buying across the state, describing it as a “menace” that could undermine the country’s electoral integrity if not addressed.
He highlighted incidents where party agents had been attacked in areas such as Utuh in Nnewi South, urging security agencies to take action against such activities. Ukachukwu emphasized the need for strict enforcement of the law to prevent electoral fraud and ensure a fair process.
However, despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in his party’s ability to win the election. He reiterated that voting is a fundamental civic duty and a demonstration of both his right to vote and his qualification to be voted for.
Praise for INEC’s Efforts
Ukachukwu also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its timely delivery of election materials and officials. He stated that this efficiency helped streamline the voting process and contributed to a more organized election day.
The election is highly competitive, with 16 candidates vying to unseat APGA’s current governor, Chukwuma Soludo. Vote counting has already begun in Anambra, marking a critical phase in the electoral process.
