Recognition of Excellence in Journalism
Accra, Nov. 8 – Mr Godwin Asediba of TV3 has been honored as the 2024 Journalist of the Year by the Ghana Journalist Association at the 29th GJA Awards. In addition to this prestigious title, Mr Asediba was also recognized as the best in documentary reporting during the event.
Earlier this year, Godwin Asediba received the 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award and is currently undergoing an internship with the BBC in London as part of the Komla Dumor award program. His reports often focus on human-interest stories that aim to highlight injustices and give a voice to marginalized communities.
The awardees were chosen from a total of 321 entries submitted to the Awards Committee of the GJA. Among the recipients were four journalists from the Ghana News Agency (GNA), who were celebrated for their outstanding work in different categories:
- Albert Oppong Ansah – Best in online news reporting
- Issifu Dasmani Laary – Best in road safety reporting
- James Amoh Junior – Best Photojournalist
- Solomon Gumah – Best in online features
This year’s awards ceremony centered around the theme: “Safeguarding Ghana’s future: The role of the media in promoting peace, security and the fight against galamsey.” The event attracted several notable figures, including President John Dramani Mahama, who served as the special guest of honor. Other speakers at the event included the acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey.
Special Prizes and Celebrations
The top three winners of the awards will be sponsored by Turkish Airlines to travel to Turkey for a well-deserved break, with all expenses covered by the airline. This gesture highlights the significance of recognizing excellence in journalism and providing opportunities for growth and development.
