Combating Electricity Theft: A National Priority
Chief Executive of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Engineer Ch. Khalid Mahmood, has emphasized that electricity theft is a critical challenge facing Pakistan. He described it as a major obstacle to the country’s progress and prosperity. Furthermore, he highlighted that this issue places an unfair burden on honest consumers who consistently pay their electricity bills. According to him, this situation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Nationwide Anti-Power Theft Campaign
The anti-power theft campaign is being implemented successfully across various operational circles, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi Cantt, Pindi City, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and surrounding areas. This initiative has received active support from the police and other law enforcement agencies. The collaboration between IESCO and these agencies has been instrumental in addressing the growing problem of electricity theft.
Significant Results from October 2025
During the month of October 2025, inspection teams conducted checks on over 94,000 electricity meters. Out of these, 142 meters were found to have direct electricity usage, while 16 meters were identified as tampered. As a result, a total of 158 individuals involved in electricity theft were fined more than Rs. 13.6 million. Additionally, 42 individuals were arrested by the police for their involvement in this unethical act.

The IESCO Chief has issued strict directives to all field formations to continue the crackdown against electricity theft without any discrimination. He reiterated his determination, stating, “We will not allow anyone to steal electricity, and we will eliminate this menace at all costs.”
