Pakistan Hockey Federation Holds Key Meeting in Lahore

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) recently held its Executive Board and Congress meeting at a private hotel in Lahore. The event was chaired by PHF President Mir Tariq Hussain Bugti, who emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in the development of hockey in the country. Olympians and Congress members from across Pakistan attended the meeting, showing their commitment to the sport.

Following the meeting, a joint press conference was held, where the PHF President and Secretary General addressed the media. During his speech, Mir Tariq Hussain Bugti announced that the Congress had approved the scrutiny of clubs and confirmed that 2026 will be the election year for the federation. He also mentioned that all clubs will be granted the right to register, and representatives from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) will be invited as observers during the elections.

Election Process and Budget Allocation

The PHF Secretary General, Olympian Rana Mujahid Ali Khan, provided further details on the election roadmap. According to him, club registration will take place between December 15 and 30, followed by the scrutiny and district elections from January 5 to 30. The Scrutiny Committee will include one representative each from the PHF, the concerned provincial association, and the PSB.

Provincial and federation elections will follow in subsequent stages. The Congress also approved the formation of a two-member Election Commission and sanctioned a budget of Rs. 750 million for the upcoming year. Although the current available funds amount to only Rs. 1 million, expenditures have been approved accordingly. A PSB representative will be included as an advisor in the Election Commission.

Financial Rules and Membership Reconciliation

Rana Mujahid noted that amendments to the financial rules have been postponed for now. He also revealed that the PHF has invited all disgruntled members to rejoin and work for the betterment of hockey. Several individuals have already approached the President to seek reconciliation.

New Initiatives and Future Plans

The Congress also supported the formation of a Pakistan Hockey Board, which is expected to help diversify and enhance revenue streams for the federation. This initiative aims to bring in new sources of funding and improve the overall financial stability of the organization.

The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism and determination among the participants. The PHF President expressed gratitude to the members for their enthusiastic participation, adding, “Our success is the result of teamwork. Insha’Allah, we will continue working together for the development and promotion of our national sport.”
