Second Capital City Race Set for November 22

Capital City Race Returns for Its Second Edition

The second edition of the Capital City Race, set to take place in Ikeja on Saturday, November 22, 2025, is expected to draw a large crowd, following the success of last year’s inaugural event. This year’s race will once again offer an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to participate in a fun-filled and healthy activity.

The 10km race, which is free to join but requires mandatory registration through the Capital City Race website, will start at Ikeja City Mall and end at the AVMCC Field in GRA, Ikeja. The event has been well-received by the community and has received support from the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission. This endorsement highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to promote fitness and encourage a healthier lifestyle among residents.

Last year’s first edition of the Capital City Race took place on November 23, 2024, and attracted over 1,000 runners. The event began at City Mall Alausa and concluded at the AVMCC Field in Ikeja GRA. It was a significant milestone, offering substantial cash prizes to participants. Winners in both male and female categories were awarded N500,000, while the first and second runners-up received N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.

Lagos State Sports Commission Director-General, Lekan Fatodu, praised the initiative during the inaugural event, calling it a brilliant step toward promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. He emphasized that the commission is committed to supporting any project that encourages productivity and activity within the community.

“The Lagos State Sports Commission is ready to welcome any initiative that helps our community to be more productive and more active to impact our socio-economic endeavour,” Fatodu said.

Race convener Dapo Ajayi highlighted the importance of the event in fostering fitness and inspiring the youth. With a large young population in Lagos, he believes that physical activities play a crucial role in improving both mental and physical well-being.

“Our young population is enormous, and we can’t be sitting and doing nothing. Physical activities encourage physical and mental well-being of the populace as well as bonding and meeting people from different walks of life,” Ajayi said.

This year’s edition of the Capital City Race will feature several sponsors, including Planet Bottling Company, the makers of Reaktor energy drink, and the Fembol Group. These brands will contribute to making the event even more exciting and engaging for participants.

Those interested in joining this year’s race can find more information through the official website and social media pages. The event continues to serve as a platform for networking, community engagement, and promoting a culture of fitness in Lagos State.
