Sri Lanka Under 19 Women’s Continue Dominance in T20 Series

Sri Lanka’s Under 19 women’s team continued their impressive performance in the T20 series against Malaysia, securing a convincing nine-wicket victory in their fourth match. The game took place at the NCC grounds, where the Sri Lankan squad showcased their strength both with the bat and ball.

Vimoksha Balasuriya once again proved to be a key player for her team, scoring an unbeaten 53 off just 50 balls. This was her third half-century of the series, highlighting her consistency and ability to perform under pressure. Her partnership with skipper Manudi Nanayakkara was crucial in sealing the win, as they added an unbroken 59 runs for the second wicket. Nanayakkara contributed 16 runs off 18 balls, while Balasuriya’s innings was a testament to her skill and composure.

On the bowling front, Aseni Thalagune once again stood out as the most effective bowler. She took 4 wickets for just 14 runs, continuing her strong form from the previous game where she claimed 5 for 10. Her performance was supported by leg spinners Chamodi Probodha and Shashini Gimhani, who each took two wickets to restrict Malaysia to a modest total of 85 for 9 in their 20 overs.

Malaysia opted to bat first but struggled to find consistency. Nur Dania was the only batter to make a significant impact, scoring 22 runs. The rest of the lineup failed to capitalize on opportunities, with several players falling cheaply. The Sri Lankan bowlers exploited this weakness effectively, maintaining tight control over the innings.

The Sri Lankan openers, Sanjana Kavindi and Vimoksha Balasuriya, set the tone for their team’s chase. They added 30 runs in 24 balls, laying a solid foundation for the middle order. Balasuriya’s leadership at the crease was evident as she guided her team to victory with a composed innings. Her contributions in the series have been remarkable, with a total of 135 runs to her name.
