FIFA Empowers Niger’s Football with 2 New Mini-Pitches

A New Era for Football in Niger

In a significant development for football in the West African nation of Niger, the world football governing body, FIFA, has taken a major step to enhance football activities in the country. This was achieved through the inauguration of two mini-pitches as part of the FIFA Arenas project. These facilities are part of the broader FIFA Forward program, which aims to support football development globally.

The two mini-pitches were installed at the CES 22 Talladje and CES 9 Harobanda primary schools, both located in the capital city of Niamey. With this initiative, Niger has joined an elite group of 11 Member Associations that have benefited from the FIFA Arena project. The introduction of these ultra-modern and sustainable facilities marks a turning point for youth football in the region.

These new spaces offer students a safe and inspiring environment to develop their football skills. It is expected to provide a ray of hope to approximately 10,000 young people in the communities surrounding the two schools. The project is designed to have a positive impact on the local youth, enabling them to engage in football under ideal conditions.

This initiative is not just about playing football; it is also about promoting social inclusion, personal growth, and a passion for sports. By creating opportunities for young people to participate in football, the project contributes to building stronger, more connected communities.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, praised the initiative as a watershed moment for football development in Niger. He commended the Nigerien Football Federation (FENIFOOT) for being part of the Starting 11—the first 11 countries to officially inaugurate their own FIFA Arena mini-pitches.

“Congratulations to the Nigerien Football Federation. You are part of our Starting 11—the first 11 countries to officially inaugurate their own FIFA Arena mini-pitches. You are contributing to a project capable of changing the lives of millions of children,” Infantino said.

His sentiments were echoed by Issaka Adamou, the President of FENIFOOT. He highlighted that this landmark project will mark a new chapter for grassroots football development in the country.

“When football becomes an educational tool, it’s a whole country preparing its youth’s future. Niger is committed to inclusive, dynamic, and civic-minded schooling through the power of sport. Integrating football into schools to strengthen civic education, social inclusion, and youth development through sport allows Niger to take a major step forward with FIFA for grassroots education and football,” Adamou stated.

Elkhan Mammadov, FIFA Chief Member Association Officer, also expressed his delight at seeing the Nigerien youth inaugurate these FIFA Arena mini-pitches. He emphasized the importance of these spaces for the children of Niamey, providing them with a safe and inspiring environment to play and grow through football.

“Niger holds a special place in the global football community, and I’m convinced that among today’s young players, some will follow in the footsteps of Africa’s football legends,” Mammadov remarked.
