New Saudi Hajj Regulations for Pilgrims with Health Conditions
The Saudi government has introduced new regulations that will restrict individuals suffering from severe health conditions or incurable diseases from participating in the Hajj pilgrimage. This decision was announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all pilgrims.
In a press release issued on Monday, the ministry highlighted that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has directed all countries sending pilgrims to conduct thorough health check-ups. The aim is to ensure that every individual is medically fit to undertake the pilgrimage. As part of this process, each pilgrim must obtain a health certificate confirming they are free from medical risks that could hinder their participation in Hajj. This certificate must be uploaded to the Nusuk Masar digital platform, which serves as an official record of all pilgrims’ health status.
Key Health Restrictions for Hajj Participation
Certain health conditions will disqualify individuals from being allowed to perform Hajj. These include:
- Pilgrims with non-functioning major organs, such as those undergoing dialysis for kidney failure, suffering from serious heart disease, or lung disease requiring continuous oxygen support.
- Individuals with severe liver cirrhosis, advanced neurological or mental disorders (including dementia), or late-stage pregnancies.
- Pregnancies deemed high-risk at any stage.
- People with infectious diseases such as tuberculosis or viral hemorrhagic fever.
- Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or other intensive immunotherapy.
These restrictions are aimed at protecting both the pilgrims and the broader community during the large-scale religious gathering.
Strict Verification Process
Saudi authorities have requested all sending countries to verify health certificates at embarkation and arrival points. Monitoring teams will be responsible for checking the authenticity and accuracy of the certificates issued through the Nusuk Masar platform. If pilgrims from any country are found to have restricted conditions, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah will take corrective and restrictive measures against that country.
Importance of Physical Fitness
Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain emphasized that physical fitness is crucial for safe and efficient Hajj management. He stated that the health of pilgrims must be prioritized to ensure a smooth and secure experience for everyone involved.
Bangladesh, among other countries, will strictly follow Saudi health guidelines in selecting pilgrims. This includes ensuring that only those who meet the health requirements are allowed to participate in the Hajj.
Hajj Registration Deadline
The registration period for Hajj has been extended until October 16. This gives pilgrims additional time to complete the necessary health check-ups and submit their health certificates through the Nusuk Masar platform.
