2026: Ex-Osun Chief of Staff Reveals Agenda, Promises LG Autonomy

A Vision for Osun State: Dr. Peter Babalola’s Five-Point Redemption Agenda

Dr. Peter Babalola, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has presented a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming the state if elected governor. His vision includes ensuring full autonomy for local government areas, which he believes will empower communities and drive development from the grassroots level.

Babalola, who previously served as Chief of Staff to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola from 2003 to 2010, also held the position of Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission during the administration of ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola. His experience in leadership roles has shaped his approach to governance, emphasizing people-centered policies.

The Five-Point Redemption Agenda

Babalola unveiled his programme titled “The Five-Point Redemption Agenda for Osun,” which outlines key priorities for the state. The agenda focuses on education and human capital revolution, efficient infrastructure, youth empowerment, employment drive, and regional equity with inclusive governance. He described this blueprint as a strategy to restore hope, equity, and prosperity across Osun.

One of the central pillars of his plan is local government autonomy. Babalola emphasized that councils would be empowered with greater authority, staff would be retrained, and rural projects would be prioritized. This approach aims to ensure that development begins where people live, not just in urban centers like Osogbo.

Education and Infrastructure Development

In addition to local government reform, Babalola has proposed significant investments in education. His plans include revamping public schools, establishing modern vocational centers, providing rural scholarships, and creating teacher-motivation programs. These initiatives are designed to enhance the quality of education and provide opportunities for students in remote areas.

Infrastructure development is another key focus. Babalola envisions a state where no community is left behind, with improved roads, power, water, and digital access. His plan includes the Osun Rural Roads Network (ORRN), a phased approach to link farms, towns, and markets for easier movement of goods and services.

A New Hope for Osun

Babalola’s message is clear: if Osun seeks progress anchored on fairness, experience, and people-first development, then he is the candidate to lead the state forward. He positions himself as not just a candidate but as the Redeemer, the New Hope, and the People’s Choice.

The APC Governorship Primary

Babalola is one of 13 aspirants vying for the APC ticket in the December 13 governorship primary. Other candidates include Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority; Senator Iyiola Omisore, former deputy governor; Senator Babajide Omoworare, former chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business; and Mr. Dotun Babayemi. Additional contenders include Benedict Alabi, Akin Ogunbiyi, and Kunle Adegoke (SAN).

Current Leadership and Political Landscape

The incumbent governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has been screened by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest in the upcoming election. This sets the stage for a competitive political landscape in the state, with multiple candidates offering distinct visions for Osun’s future.
